Installing Bamboo Wood Floors

Sticky disaster but it looks AMAZING!! Attila was the official glue layer, my Dad installed the floors and I was the wood cutter. We put bamboo floors in every room except for the kitchen and bathrooms and it turned out lovely! One tip: make sure to wear gloves and long pants when you are laying the glue because it took Attila DAYS to get it out.

Insulation & Ceiling Installation

Insulation is very itchy, dirty job!

Now, we're ready to install the drywall ceilings.  We bought a drywall lift to make this process easier.  It made it easier but we still had limited blood circulating through our arms after putting a drywall screw every 7 inches.

The last step for the night was to cut holes for all of the recessed lights and speakers.  Attila customized the entire house with a speakers and a volume control in every room.

Cabinet Installation

We purchased cabinets from a woman whose house was going to into foreclosure. She sold us all of the cabinets, the sink and the faucet for $600, quite a deal! We had to get creative when designing the layout of the cabinets though since her kitchen design was completely different from ours. Check it out!

Now, time to hang them:

Now it's time for the contractors to finish the roof=)

Joint compound, drywall, sanding & priming.

In the past 2 weeks we took our time and finished taping, completed the sanding process and we primed the house with first coat. The sanding process took a long time because as we have come to realize taping and spreading joint compound truly is an art…and we are from from mastering it! We had a ton of air bubbles and also we had some uneven drywall pieces and then we had to make up for the gaps by loading a ton of compound in them. Here is a link to a YouTube.com video of my Dad giving a tutorial on how to tape drywall. Check it out here:  How to Tape Drywall

Demolition

The first day after we bought the house we began to gut it, starting with ripping the existing paneling and drywall from every corner of the house. We also lifted up all of the gross carpets from the living room and bedrooms. Then after 3 days of demolition we stripped the entire roof – there were 4 layers of shingles to tear off. That was the hardest day I had ever worked in my life! We were able to get a 20 cubic foot dumpster for $325 total. My Dad arrived on Wednesday night and he was our foreman. We began to do hang drywall on Saturday & Sunday but we didn’t finish this week. Attila’s Dad and Frank came down on Saturday they helped us as well. Attila’s Dad ran all new pipes in the kitchen and Frank moved our fence for us… THANK YOU!!! We ran into a small problem with the city and received a violation to stop work because we didn’t get a permit for the roof…oops;-) We found a great company to do replace the entire roof for us for $1500 with a permit. This was all in the first two weeks and just the beginning of the learning curves.
